Herniated Disc

Disc problems are relatively common and usually the source of back pain. One of the most common disc issues we see around our office is herniated discs. This is something that can affect any area of the spine but typically occurs within the lower back or neck causing some serious pain.

What Is A Herniated Disc?

Your spine is made of up vertebral jelly-like discs that give support between the vertebral bones of the spine. These discs provide cushion and shock absorbing duties that allow the spine to bend, twist and move. When the discs start to push or bulge out, they can put pressure on nearby nerves causing all sorts of problems and pain. This pain can even run into the arms and the legs.

What Causes A Herniated Disc?

There are a few different things that can cause a herniated disc, making no one is exempt from this issue. Check out what some of these causes are and let’s work toward being proactive with our spinal health. We specialize in disc rehabilitation and can help with the following common causes of herniated discs:

Disc Degeneration

The aging process is a top cause because as we get older our body simply breaks down. This includes our vertebral discs.

Normal Wear & Tear

Staying active and repetitive motions over time can cause friction on discs which slowly start to wear down.

Traumatic Injury

Intense injuries from things like car accidents or accidents on the job can create force enough to herniate a disc and cause significant pain.

Improper Lifting

When you use your back more than your legs to lift things that are heavy, this can cause discs to bulge out of place.
